We were recently approached by Richard Ashrowan from Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival, who asked us to support their Community Filmmaking Programme in 2016. “Shoot it Yourself” project is funded by Into Film and it is aimed at 16-19 year olds ( prioritising those outside of the formal education system).
We are particularly excited about this project as it is focused on Participatory Media practice, which we had frequently researched in our previous projects in Scotland.
We believe that digital storytelling is a very powerful social development tool, which has the potential to empower the young people to share their stories and views.
Over the next months we will be co-ordinating project, raising awareness of this opportunity, recruiting volunteers and participants.
We asked young people from the Scottish Borders to co-design “Shoot it Yourself” methodology with us. Our “Creative Brunch” is taking place in Hawick on 11th of December.
On the same day we will also be meeting with Moving Image Makers Collective, a group of filmmakers based in the Borders, to explore any additional programming ideas and roles.
We are really looking forward to learning more about filmmaking in the Borders as well meeting the young people and the collective in December
